About the race
The Wings for Life World Run in London, Ontario is an app based mass participation event scheduled for May 9, 2027. The location is London, ON, and the route and exact meeting location are still being finalized. The event uses a Virtual Catcher Car instead of a traditional finish line. Runners and wheelchair participants start together and race to stay ahead of the Virtual Catcher Car, which begins its pursuit at an initial speed of 14 km/h and steadily increases its speed until the last participants are caught.
The format allows both running and wheelchair competition, and the London location is accessible for wheelchair participants. Local arrangements at the London site include a goodie bag, refreshment station, timing and race numbers, and other local setup details. Participants use the Wings for Life World Run mobile app to take part in the race. All donations and entry fees collected at this event are directed to spinal cord research projects.
