The Edinburgh to North Berwick 20-mile Race

The Edinburgh to North Berwick race is a long-standing road event that began in 1958 and was held almost every year until 2017 before being revived from 2022. The route covers 20 miles, a distance that has been professionally measured in recent years and set at this length since 2009.

The course is mostly flat and runs on hard surfaces, making it commonly used as a trial for runners preparing for longer road races. The event provides hospitality at the finish with drinks and food available for participants, and there are numerous prizes and spot-prizes awarded.

The 58th staging took place on 3 May 2025 and recorded a total of 227 finishers; conditions that day included sunshine and a westerly wind. The 2026 edition is scheduled for Saturday 2nd May with the start located on Portobello prom. Entries for that race open on Monday 16th March at 9pm via EntryCentral; the entry fee is £18.75, with an additional £7 fee if booking a place on the coach back to Portobello.

The event keeps records of finishers and staging counts and has offered team prizes in recent years. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
