The Edinburgh to North Berwick 20-mile Race
The event is a road race measured as 20 miles, a distance used since 2009. The race began in 1958, was held almost every year until 2017, and was revived from 2022. The course is mostly flat and on hard surfaces, and it includes water stations along the route.
Registration is based at Power League football, 10 Westbank Street, Portobello, with adjacent free parking and changing-rooms and toilets on site. A self-service system issues a race number, a numbered kit-bag, and safety pins; kit-bags are deposited at a large white van outside registration and are returned at the finish in numbered blocks.
Teams of three or four may be entered; modest prizes are awarded for the first two teams and for the best all-female team. Individual prizes and spot-prizes are also given. Simple first-aid supplies are available at each water-station, and full first-aid cover is provided at the finish.
Transport and post-race arrangements include a train station about 600 yards from the finish, a bus service from nearby Church Road that takes about 70 minutes to Portobello, and a coach back to Portobello that can be pre-booked for an extra fee. Results are posted on a board near the finish as runners complete the course. Entrants who need to withdraw may request either a deferral to the following year or a 90% refund before 27 April.
