The Edinburgh to North Berwick 20-mile Race
The Edinburgh to North Berwick Race is a long-standing road running event that first began in 1958. After a brief hiatus, the race was revived in 2022 and follows a route between Portobello and North Berwick. The course covers a distance of exactly 20 miles, which has been professionally measured and remains consistent with the distance used since 2009.
The course is characterized by a mostly flat layout on hard surfaces. It is often utilized by participants as a trial run for upcoming marathons. The event features a point-to-point route, starting on the Portobello promenade and concluding on the grassy area beside the North Berwick putting green on Beach Road.
Registration takes place at the Power League football facility in Portobello, where changing rooms, toilets, and parking are available. On race day, participants collect a package containing a race number, four safety pins, and a numbered kit-bag. These bags can be transported to the finish line via an event van.
Post-race amenities include:
- Food and drinks provided for all finishers.
- Results posted on boards near the finish tent.
- An awards ceremony featuring various prizes and spot-prizes.
- Sustainable practices including the collection of race numbers and pins for reuse.
Transportation options for the return journey include a pre-booked event coach, local bus services, or the train station located 600 yards from the finish area. Team entries are available for groups of three or four runners, with specific prizes for the top teams. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
