Scurry to the Sea 2026 is a mixed-terrain running event of just under 12 miles, scheduled for 26 July 2026. The route starts at the Hillend ski centre car park and finishes on Musselburgh harbour beach, with the final approach across sand to the finish. The event combines cross-country, urban orienteering and road running. Pre-entry online only. Entrants must be over 16. Earphones are prohibited, dogs are not allowed, and the course is not suitable for pushchairs, baby prams or run buggies. Total places are 275 and the event status is listed as open.

Course

The route begins with a steep climb to the top of Allermuir Hill at 1627 ft, then descends past Swanston Golf Course. Competitors must navigate between mandatory checkpoints; checkpoint 1 is at the top of Allermuir, checkpoint 2 is at the entrance to the Hermitage of Braid, and checkpoint 3 is at the start of Kings Haugh entering Peffermill industrial estate. The suggested line runs through Oxgangs, Braidburn Valley Park, past the Braid hotel, along Blackford Glen Road, through Inch Park, around Craigmillar Castle Park, then along cycle paths behind Duddingston Golf Course. Runners cross the A6106, go under the A1, pass the Range carpark, cross a railway bridge and follow Brunstane Burn path for the final stretch to the sea.

There is an optional bus from Musselburgh Fisherrow harbour beach to the start. Bus seats must be booked and paid for during sign-up at a fee of £3.50 or no seat will be allocated.
