Scurry to the Sea 2026
Scurry to the Sea is a point to point running event on 26 July 2026 covering just under 12 miles of mixed terrain. The route starts at the Hillend ski centre car park with a short climb to the top of Allermuir in the Pentlands, listed at 1627 ft, before descending toward the coast. Runners navigate cross-country paths, urban sections and road running on the way to Musselburgh harbour beach.
The course uses three mandatory checkpoints. Checkpoint 1 is at the top of Allermuir. The suggested route passes through Oxgangs and Braidburn Valley Park, then by the Braid hotel into the Hermitage of Braid where Checkpoint 2 is located. From there the route continues via Blackford Glen Road, Doubles Hedges Road, Inch Park and around Craigmillar Castle Park to Checkpoint 3 at the start of Kings Haugh entering Peffermill industrial estate.
After Kings Haugh the route follows a cycle path behind Duddingston Golf Course, crosses the A6106, passes under the A1, crosses the Range carpark and the railway bridge, then follows Brunstane Burn for the final mile and a half into Musselburgh. The finish is on Musselburgh harbour beach and includes a compulsory run across sand to the line.
Entries are pre-entry online only and open to over 16s. A paid bus option from Musselburgh Fisherrow harbour beach is available if selected at sign up. Earphones are prohibited, dogs are not permitted, and the course is not suitable for pushchairs. Entry pricing tiers are listed and total places are limited to 275.
