Event

Scurry to the Sea 2026 is a 12-mile running event on 26 July 2026 organised by Scurry Events Ltd. The event is a mixed-terrain route that combines cross-country, urban orienteering and road-running. Entry is by pre-entry online only and the event is open to participants aged over 16. Total places are limited to 275. A service fee of 4% (minimum 50p) applies to each sign-up. Course

The race starts at the Hillend ski centre car park and begins with a short hill section up to the top of Allermuir in the Pentlands, listed at 1,627 ft (checkpoint 1). The route then descends toward the sea, passing Swanston Golf Course and areas of Edinburgh including Oxgangs, Braidburn Valley Park, the Hermitage of Braid (checkpoint 2 at the Hermitage entrance), Blackford Glen Road, Inch Park, Craigmillar Castle Park and Peffermill industrial estate (checkpoint 3 at Kings Haugh). The final section follows cycle paths and the Brunstane Burn path down to Musselburgh harbour beach, with a marked entrance to the sand and a compulsory run across the sand to the finish.

Logistics and rules

A paid bus option is available from Musselburgh Fisherrow harbour beach to the start; bus seats must be selected and paid for at sign-up. Toilets are available at the race start but not before boarding the bus. The wearing of earphones is prohibited, dogs are not allowed on the course, and the event is not suitable for pushchairs, baby prams or run buggies.
