The Drop - Sevenoaks
The Drop is a stripped-back navigation challenge that starts and finishes at Up & Running, 145 High St, Sevenoaks TN13 1XJ. Participants are transported by bus to an undisclosed drop location while wearing blackout blindfolds or approved alternatives. On removal of the blindfolds the clock starts and each person must find their own way back to the event centre on foot.
At registration participants hand over all electronic devices, watches, and navigational aids and receive a race number plus a sealed emergency bag to carry for the duration. No maps, no GPS, no compass, and no external help are permitted once deployed.
Distances are measured as the crow flies and the actual route taken will usually be significantly longer. Options offered at this event are listed below:
- 10 miles dropped 10 miles as the crow flies with no navigation aids
- 15 miles dropped 15 miles as the crow flies with no navigation aids
- 6 miles dropped 6 miles as the crow flies; entry restricted to non-locals
Rules include on foot only, no unauthorised maps, devices may only record if sealed in the emergency bag, and breaking the emergency bag seal leads to disqualification. Live GPS tracking is available as an optional safety feature; trackers must be returned or a replacement fee applies.
