The IKEA Marathon
The IKEA Marathon is a full marathon of 26.2 miles staged entirely inside the Croydon IKEA store. The route is multi-lapped to reach the marathon distance and does not use the car park or other outside areas. The course includes running up the travelator, along aisles and through the tills, within the store environment.
The event is limited to 100 places, with 80 spots allocated to general sale. Organisers listed entry fees as £80/£82 for affiliated and unaffiliated entries and noted that an ARC permit is pending. There is a firm 6 hour cut off due to the working environment, and spectators are not permitted for the same reason.
On-course support will reflect a Swedish theme at the usual aid station, with possible items such as meatballs or lingonberry sandwiches. Participants receive a bespoke self-assembly marathon medal and a unique finisher t-shirt. The organisers indicated that 16% of all proceeds will be donated to the Shelter charity.
