The Drop - Milton Keynes
The Drop is a navigation challenge where participants are taken to an unknown location and must find their own way back to the event centre without navigation aids. The event base is at Up & Running, Central Retail Park, Patriot Dr, Bradwell Common, Milton Keynes MK13 8PU.
Distances offered:
- 15 miles drop measured as the crow flies, actual route will be longer
- 10 miles drop measured as the crow flies, shorter version of the same rules
- 6 miles drop measured as the crow flies, strictly for non-locals only
At registration participants hand over all electronic devices, watches, and navigational aids and receive a race number and a sealed emergency bag to carry for the duration. Deployment is by bus while wearing blackout blindfolds or approved alternatives; participants do not know their location or orientation when dropped. The clock starts when blindfolds are removed.
Key rules include no GPS unless devices remain sealed in the emergency bag, no unauthorised maps, on foot only, and disqualification if the emergency bag seal is broken. Entries for the 6 mile option may be checked and local participants could be moved to longer options to preserve fairness.
Live GPS tracking is optional and not included in the entry fee. Trackers are accurate to about 5 metres, perform best with a clear view of the sky, and must be returned or a replacement fee will apply.
Parking is available; nearest railway station is a 10 minute walk and a bus station is 5 minutes from event HQ. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
