The Drop - Leeds

The Drop is a navigation challenge based at Up & Running, 12 Boar Ln, Leeds. Participants are taken to an unknown location and must find their own way back to the event centre without markers, directions, or reassurance. At registration participants hand over electronic devices, watches, and navigational aids and receive a race number and a sealed emergency bag to carry for the duration.

Distances offered:

  • 15 Miles: undisclosed drop 15 miles as the crow flies.
  • 10 Miles: undisclosed drop 10 miles as the crow flies.
  • 6 Miles: non-locals only; undisclosed drop 6 miles as the crow flies.

Deployment uses a blindfolded bus transfer; blackout safety goggles are available as an alternative if required. When blindfolds are removed the participant's time begins and they must return on foot. Rules include no GPS, no unauthorised maps, on foot only, and maintaining emergency bag integrity. Entries may be checked and local participants can be moved between distance options to preserve fairness.

An optional live GPS tracker can be used for safety and sharing progress. Trackers are accurate within about 5 metres, must be returned at the end of the event, and a £175 replacement fee applies for unreturned units. The event is open to entrants aged 18 and over on 12/05/2024. Prices are listed per distance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
