The Drop - Leeds
The Drop is a stripped-back navigation challenge held from an event centre at Up & Running, 12 Boar Ln, Leeds LS1 6EN. Participants are taken to an undisclosed location and must find their own way back to the event centre without route markers or reassurance.
Distances offered:
- 15 miles dropped as the crow flies from the event centre.
- 10 miles dropped as the crow flies with the same rules in a shorter format.
- 6 miles dropped as the crow flies, available only to non-locals.
At registration participants surrender electronic devices, watches, and navigational aids and receive a race number plus a sealed emergency bag which must be carried for the duration. Deployment is by bus; participants wear blackout blindfolds or approved alternatives during transit and are unaware of their location or facing direction when they step off.
Once blindfolds are removed the clock starts and all navigation is the participant's responsibility. Rules include no GPS unless devices remain sealed in the emergency bag, no unauthorised maps, movement on foot only, and disqualification if the emergency bag seal is broken.
Live GPS tracking is available as an optional, paid feature. Trackers should be placed with a clear view of the sky, are accurate to about 5 metres, and must be returned or a replacement fee will apply. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
