The Drop - Leeds
The Drop is a stripped back navigation challenge based at Up & Running, 12 Boar Ln, Leeds, LS1 6EN. Participants are taken to an unknown location and must find their own way back to the event centre without route markers or reassurance.
Available distances:
- 15 miles
- 10 miles
- 6 miles (non-locals only)
At registration participants hand over all electronic devices, watches, and any navigational aids. In return they receive a race number and a sealed emergency bag that must be carried for the duration. Deployment is by bus with blackout blindfolds or approved alternatives; when blindfolds come off the clock starts and navigation is entirely the participant's responsibility.
Rules include no GPS unless devices are sealed inside the emergency bag, no unauthorised maps, on foot only, and maintaining the emergency bag seal. The Drop 6 is restricted to non-locals and entries may be checked; local participants may be moved to the 10 or 15 mile options.
Live GPS tracking is offered as an optional safety feature for an extra cost. Trackers are accurate within about five metres, can be affected by tall buildings, must be placed for good sky view, and must be returned after the event or a replacement fee of £175 will apply. Entry prices range from £35.00 to £55.50. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
