The Drop - Kendal
The Drop is a stripped-back navigation challenge where participants are taken to an unknown location and must find their own way back to the event centre in Kendal. There are no markers, no route, and no navigational reassurance; decision making is entirely individual.
Distances offered include:
- 6 miles (as the crow flies), for non-locals only
- 10 miles (as the crow flies), standard Drop option
- 15 miles (as the crow flies), extended distance option
At registration participants hand over all electronic devices, watches, and navigational aids. Each person receives a race number and a sealed emergency bag that must be carried for the duration of the event. Deployment uses blindfolded transport to an undisclosed drop location; blindfolds can be substituted with blackout safety goggles if required.
Rules include no GPS or unauthorised maps, travel on foot only, and disqualification for breaking the emergency bag seal. Distances are measured as the crow flies so actual routes will be significantly longer than the quoted distances.
An optional live GPS tracking service is available for safety and sharing. Trackers are accurate to within about 5 metres but can be affected by terrain and placement. All trackers must be returned at the end of the event or a replacement fee of £175 will apply.
Event centre: Podda & Wren Coffee Roasters, 4 Elephant Yard, Kendal LA9 4QQ. Entry fees range from £35 to £55 depending on option. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
