The Drop - Horsham
The Drop is a navigation challenge based at Up & Running, 20 Queen Street, Horsham RH13 5AF. Participants are transported blindfolded to an undisclosed drop location; the objective is to find their own way back to the event centre without markers, directions, or reassurance.
Distances offered include:
- 15 miles measured as the crow flies
- 10 miles measured as the crow flies
- 6 miles measured as the crow flies, open to non-locals only
At registration participants hand over electronic devices, watches, and navigational aids. In return they receive a race number and a sealed emergency bag which must be carried intact. Deployment is by bus while blindfolded or using approved alternatives; when blindfolds are removed the challenge begins and participants must travel on foot to return to the event centre.
Rules include no GPS unless the device is sealed inside the emergency bag, no unauthorised maps, on foot only, and disqualification if the emergency bag seal is broken. Distances are measured as the crow flies and actual routes will be longer.
Live GPS tracking is offered as an optional service not included in the entry fee. Trackers are accurate within about 5 metres but can be affected by buildings or signal black spots, should be placed with a clear view of the sky, and must be returned or a £175 replacement fee will apply.
