The Drop - Horsham
The Drop is a stripped-back navigation challenge in Horsham where participants are taken to an undisclosed location and must find their own way back to the event centre on foot. There are no markers, no directions and no reassurance; uncertainty is intentional.
Distances:
- 15 miles: dropped 15 miles as the crow flies; original longer version.
- 10 miles: dropped 10 miles as the crow flies; same rules in a shorter format.
- 6 miles: dropped 6 miles as the crow flies; open only to non-locals.
At registration participants hand over electronic devices, watches and navigational aids and receive a race number and a sealed emergency bag. Deployment is by bus while blindfolded or using approved alternatives; blindfolds can be replaced with blackout safety goggles if required. When blindfolds are removed the clock starts and each participant must navigate back without maps, GPS, compasses or outside help.
Rules include no GPS unless devices are sealed in the emergency bag, no unauthorised maps, on-foot travel only and disqualification for breaking the emergency bag seal. Entries for the 6-mile option may be checked and local participants may be moved to longer options.
Live GPS tracking is offered as an optional, paid feature with about 5 metre accuracy, placement recommendations and a tracker return requirement; unreturned trackers incur a replacement fee. Distances are measured as the crow flies; actual routes will be significantly longer.
Location: Up & Running, 20 Queen Street Horsham RH13 5AF. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
