The Drop - Horsham
The Drop is a navigation challenge. Participants are not given a route. They are transported to an undisclosed location and must find their own way back to the event centre.
Event format
All participants are transported to their start point by bus while wearing blackout blindfolds. They do not know the location or the direction they are facing. The timer starts when the blindfolds are removed. Distances are measured "as the crow flies," meaning the actual running distance will be longer.
During registration, participants surrender all electronic devices, watches, and navigational aids. In return, they receive a race number and a sealed emergency bag they must carry.
Available distances
Participants choose from three distances:
- 15 miles: The original format, described as the toughest version.
- 10 miles: A shorter format with the same rules.
- 6 miles: This shorter distance is only open to non-local participants. Entries may be checked, and locals may be moved to the longer distances.
Rules and equipment
No external maps, GPS, or compasses are allowed. Participants can only use maps provided by the organisers, if any are provided. All travel must be on foot. The sealed emergency bag must not be opened during the event, or the participant will be disqualified.
Additional information
An optional live GPS tracking service is available for a fee. Participants can share a login with friends and family. Trackers must be returned after the event.
The event centre is at Up & Running on Queen Street in Horsham. There is a railway station a 10-minute walk away and a bus station a 5-minute walk away. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
