Sussex Downs Trail Run
The Sussex Downs Trail Run takes place in the South Downs National Park and starts from Plumpton Racecourse. The venue is close to Brighton, Haywards Heath, Lewes, Burgess Hill and the A27 and A23. The course begins with a mostly flat 3.5 km tree-lined section that prepares runners for a climb up to the South Downs Way.
From the ridge, the route follows sturdy trails with views over the Sussex countryside, the Seven Sisters Country Park, and distant sea views. Participants run a loop that leads toward Brighton before returning to the South Downs Way and descending from the hilltop. The final section includes a flat 3 km approach to the finish.
There are three route distances to choose from:
- 21 km Half Marathon route
- 12 km standard route
- 9 km shorter route
The event includes a medal, a drink, and finisher goodies at the finish. The organiser notes that new runners are actively encouraged and that multiple route distances are available to suit different preferences. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
