The Drop - Birmingham
The Drop is a stripped-back navigation challenge based at Blackroot Bistro, Sutton Park, Sutton Coldfield. Participants are blindfolded, transported to an undisclosed drop location, and must find their own way back to the event centre on foot without navigational aids.
At registration participants hand over electronic devices, watches, and any navigational aids and receive a race number and a sealed emergency bag which must remain intact. Deployment uses blackout blindfolds or approved alternatives and the clock starts when blindfolds are removed.
Distances are measured as the crow flies and actual routes will be longer. Distance options:
- 15 miles core Drop
- 10 miles shorter Drop
- 6 miles Drop for non-locals only
Rules restrict navigation aids and transport: no GPS unless devices are sealed in the emergency bag, no unauthorised maps, on foot only, and breaking the emergency bag seal results in disqualification. Entries for the 6 mile option may be checked to confirm non-local status.
Live GPS tracking is offered separately for convenience and safety; trackers must be returned at the end of the event or a replacement fee will apply. Participants are asked to read the event FAQs for required kit, safety information, and other logistical details. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
