Event

The Drop - Birmingham is an outdoor navigation event on 13 September 2026 at Blackroot Bistro, Sutton Park, Blackroot Gate, Sutton Coldfield, B74 2YU. The organiser describes the event as inspired by military navigation. Entry is open to people aged 18 and over on 13/09/2026. Two distance options are offered:

  • 10 miles (£48.00)
  • 15 miles (£55.00)

Format and rules

Participants register and hand over electronic devices and watches. Each receives a race number and an emergency bag. Competitors are transported to an undisclosed drop-off location while blindfolded or wearing blackout safety goggles. From the drop-off they must find their way back to the event centre using no maps, no GPS, no compass and no outside help. Distances are measured as the crow flies and the actual route may be longer.

Rules include sealing any recording device in the emergency bag and not breaking the seal; breaking the seal results in disqualification. Only maps provided by the organisers may be used, if any are supplied.

Tracking and safety

Live GPS tracking is available as an optional paid feature separate from the entry fee. Trackers are described as accurate to about 5 metres but can be affected by tall buildings and signal black spots. All trackers must be returned after the event or a £175 replacement fee applies. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
