Dragon Coastal Races 18th and 19th July 2026
The Dragon Coastal Races stage three linear trail events along the Wales Coast Path, all finishing at the Norwegian Church in Cardiff Bay. The courses use largely clear, non-technical trails and coastal paths with sandy beaches, dunes, shingle and sections of singletrack and forest trail.
Distances:
- 100 miles from Rhossili to Cardiff Bay
- 50 miles from Kenfig Sands Nature Reserve to Cardiff Bay
- 30 miles from Dunraven Bay to Cardiff Bay
The 100 mile route leaves the coast path for a forested section through Afan Forest and passes Margam Park before rejoining the coast. All routes traverse the Vale of Glamorgan Heritage Coast and feature named landmarks including Merthyr Mawr dunes, Ogmore Castle stepping stones, Nash Point, Atlantic College, Llantwit Beach, Porthkerry Park, Barry and Penarth Pier, with a final approach across Cardiff Bay Barrage to the Norwegian Church.
Route information and navigation are provided with marked maps, a GPS file and on-course signage. Night sections have additional luminous markers. Checkpoint support is provided along each course with food and drinks; the 100 has 12 checkpoints and three drop bag locations, the 50 has seven checkpoints and one drop bag location, and the 30 has four checkpoints. Cut off times operate at checkpoints for safety. Transport from Cardiff Bay to the starts is available for a fee and parking at the finish is used by some participants.
