Dragon Coastal Races
The Dragon Coastal Races are three point-to-point trail events along sections of the Wales Coast Path that finish at the Norwegian Church in Cardiff Bay. Routes mix coastal path, beaches, dunes, shingle, forest singletrack and parkland. Navigation is supported by Wales Coast Path signs, additional running arrows and luminous flags where the route leaves the coast path. Marked maps, a GPS file and live GPS tracking are provided.
Key route features include Worms Head and Rhossili Bay, Swansea Bay and the Mumbles, Afan Forest singletrack, Margam Park, Kenfig Sands, Porthcawl, the Merthyr Mawr dunes and Ogmore Castle stepping stones, Nash Point and Llantwit Beach, Porthkerry Park and the approach across Penarth Pier and the Cardiff Bay Barrage to the Captain Scott Memorial.
There are checkpoints on each course that provide sweet and savoury snacks and hot and cold drinks. Checkpoint numbers and drop bag access vary by distance. The organiser provides event safety cover, first aid, post event food and race photography. The routes have published approximate ascent figures and course cut off rules; cut off times at checkpoints are non negotiable.
