Dragon Coastal Races 2026
The Dragon Coastal Races are three point to point ultramarathons that follow large sections of the Wales Coast Path and nearby inland trails. Routes run along beaches, dunes, shingle, coastal cliffs and forest singletrack, and finish in Cardiff Bay at the Norwegian Church.
Distances offered:
- 100 miles from Rhossili Bay to Cardiff Bay
- 50 miles from Kenfig Sands to Cardiff Bay
- 30 miles from Dunraven Bay to Cardiff Bay
Route notes and navigation: the courses use Wales Coast Path signage with additional running arrows, tape and luminous flags where the route leaves the coast path. Participants receive a marked map, route description and GPS file. GPS trackers are fitted before the start and live GPS tracking is provided for all races.
Terrain and landmarks include the southern Gower coastline, Mumbles and Swansea Bay, forest sections in Afan Forest, Margam Park, Kenfig Nature Reserve, Merthyr Mawr dune system, Ogmore Castle stepping stones, Nash Point Lighthouse, Atlantic College, Llantwit Beach, Porthkerry Park, Barry and Penarth Pier before the final approach to Cardiff Bay.
Support and logistics: the 100 mile route lists approximately 3400 m of ascent, the 50 about 1300 m and the 30 about 460 m; ascent figures are approximate. There are checkpoint stations with food and hot and cold drinks (12 for the 100, 7 for the 50, 4 for the 30) and drop bag provision for longer distances. A compulsory kit list must be carried and course cutoffs apply. Entry fees, transport options and included services such as finish tokens, food, photos and safety cover are published for each distance.
