Event overview
The Dragon Coastal Races take place on 18 and 19 July 2026. They are three ultra-trail races that follow the Wales Coast Path and finish at the Captain Scott Memorial by the Norwegian Church in Cardiff Bay. Routes include coastal trails, beaches, dunes, shingle and some inland forest and park sections. The courses are waymarked and an official GPS file and map are provided.
Race details
- 100 miles from Worms Head / Rhossili Bay to Cardiff Bay
- 50 miles from Kenfig Sands to Cardiff Bay
- 30 miles from Dunraven Bay to Cardiff Bay
The approximate total ascent is 3400 metres for the 100, 1300 metres for the 50 and 460 metres for the 30. The 100 route passes the southern Gower coast, Swansea, Afan Forest and Margam Park. The 50 and 100 routes share sections including Merthyr Mawr dunes, Ogmore stepping stones and the Vale of Glamorgan Heritage Coast. The 30 route joins near Dunraven Bay and passes Nash Point, Atlantic College, Llantwit Beach, Porthkerry Park, Barry and Penarth before Cardiff Bay. Checkpoints are provided on each course: 12 for the 100, 7 for the 50 and 4 for the 30. Drop bag access is available for the longer races.
Entries and inclusions
The event fee listed is £160 for the 100, £95 for the 50 and £55 for the 30. Entry includes a finisher buckle or medal, live GPS tracking, checkpoint food and drink, drop bags for eligible races, a tested GPS file and map, a post-event meal at the Norwegian Church café, race safety and first aid cover, event photography and an in-depth video briefing.
