Dragon Coastal Races : 18 & 19 July 2026
The Dragon Coastal Races are a set of three point-to-point trail ultramarathons along sections of the Wales Coast Path, all finishing at the Norwegian Church in Cardiff Bay. The routes use mostly clear, non-technical trails and coastal footpaths with a mix of beaches, dunes, shingle, forest singletrack and parkland.
Available distances:
- 100 miles from Rhossili Bay to Cardiff Bay
- 50 miles from Kenfig Sands to Cardiff Bay
- 30 miles from Dunraven Bay to Cardiff Bay
Route highlights include Rhossili Bay, the southern Gower coast, Afan Forest singletrack, Margam Park, Kenfig Nature Reserve, Porthcawl, the Merthyr Mawr dune system, Ogmore Castle stepping stones, Nash Point, Llantwit Beach, Porthkerry Park, Sully Island, Penarth Pier, the Kymin Steps and the Cardiff Bay Barrage. Approximate ascent for each course is provided: about 3400 m for the 100, 1300 m for the 50 and 460 m for the 30. The organiser notes ascent figures are approximate and subject to route adjustments.
Courses are waymarked with Wales Coast Path signs plus extra running arrows and luminous flags where the route leaves the coast path. GPS files, marked maps and route descriptions are supplied and live GPS tracking is used during the races. Checkpoints provide a mix of sweet and savoury snacks and hot and cold drinks; the 100, 50 and 30 races have 12, 7 and 4 checkpoints respectively.
