About the race
The Dragon Coastal Races are three ultratrail footraces along the Wales Coast Path, held over 18 and 19 July 2026. Each route finishes at the Captain Scott Memorial by the Norwegian Church in Cardiff Bay.
The event offers three distances:
- 100 miles from Worms Head, Rhossili Bay to Cardiff Bay
- 50 miles from Kenfig Sands Nature Reserve to Cardiff Bay
- 30 miles from Dunraven Bay (Southerndown) to Cardiff Bay
Routes follow marked sections of the Wales Coast Path with additional running arrows and tape where the course leaves the path. Terrain includes beaches, sand and shingle, coastal trails, forest singletrack and dune systems such as Merthyr Mawr. Notable points on the routes include the Mumbles, Afan Forest, Margam Park, Kenfig Sands, Ogmore Castle stepping stones, Nash Point Lighthouse, Atlantic College, Porthkerry Park, Penarth Pier and the Kymin Steps.
Climb profiles are approximate: the 100 has about 3400 metres of ascent, the 50 about 1300 metres and the 30 about 460 metres. Support provisions vary by distance: there are 12 checkpoints for the 100, 7 for the 50 and 4 for the 30. Drop bag access is provided for the 100 and 50. Entry fees include finish awards (buckle for 100, medals for 50 and 30), live GPS tracking, checkpoint food and drinks, a tested GPS file and a post-event meal in the Norwegian Church Café.
