Event overview
The Dragon Coastal Races are three ultra-trail races held along the Wales Coast Path on 18 and 19 July 2026. All routes finish at the Captain Scott Memorial by the Norwegian Church in Cardiff Bay. The event is linear, running eastwards along coastal trails and beaches and includes coastal, dune, shingle and forest sections.
Distances
- 100 miles - Rhossili Bay to Cardiff Bay
- 50 miles - Kenfig Sands to Cardiff Bay
- 30 miles - Dunraven Bay to Cardiff Bay
Route and checkpoints
Routes follow the Wales Coast Path with additional markings where the course leaves the path. Notable sections include the southern Gower coastline, Afan Forest (luminous markings for the night section), Margam Park, Merthyr Mawr dune system, Ogmore stepping stones, the Vale of Glamorgan Heritage Coast, Nash Point and Penarth Pier with a final climb up Kymin Steps. Approximate ascent: 3400 m (100), 1300 m (50), 460 m (30). Checkpoints provide snacks and hot and cold drinks: 12 for the 100, 7 for the 50 and 4 for the 30. Drop bags: three for the 100 and one for the 50.
Logistics and entry
Entries are open from 12 September 2025 and close 12 July 2026. Entry fees: £160 (100), £95 (50), £55 (30). Transport options are provided from Cardiff Bay to start locations; separate coach fares apply. Entry includes a finish buckle or medal, live GPS tracking, GPS file and map, checkpoint provision, drop bag access where listed, a post-event meal at the Norwegian Church café, race safety and first aid cover, video briefing and race photos.
