Dragon Coastal Races 2026
The Dragon Coastal Races offer three point to point ultramarathon distances along the Wales Coast Path, finishing at the Norwegian Church in Cardiff Bay. Routes combine coastal trail, beaches, dunes, rocky bays and forest singletrack, with a mix of non-technical trail and some steep sections.
Distances
- 100 miles from Rhossili Bay to Cardiff Bay
- 50 miles from Kenfig Sands to Cardiff Bay
- 30 miles from Dunraven Bay to Cardiff Bay
Route features include the southern Gower coastline, Swansea Bay, Afan Forest singletrack, Margam Park, Kenfig Nature Reserve, Merthyr Mawr dune system, Ogmore Castle stepping stones, Nash Point, Llantwit Beach, Porthkerry Park, Barry and the final climb up the Kymin Steps before the Cardiff Bay Barrage finish.
Approximate ascent figures are given as 3400 metres for the 100, 1300 metres for the 50 and 460 metres for the 30. The route is waymarked with Wales Coast Path signs plus additional arrows and luminous flags where it leaves the coast path. Organisers provide a marked map, GPS file and live GPS tracking.
Checkpoints: 12 for the 100, 7 for the 50 and 4 for the 30, offering sweet and savoury snacks and hot and cold drinks. The 100 has a drop bag access point at Kenfig. There is a compulsory kit list that must be carried and is non negotiable regardless of weather. Transport options run from the finish to the race starts and transport prices are listed per event.
