The RIDUM 2026

The RIDUM is a 30 mile ultra marathon run on the Rhymney Valley Ridgeway Walk in South East Wales. The route is a circular course around the ridge tops of the Caerphilly basin, encircling the River Rhymney and passing lanes, trails and woodland. The event starts and finishes at Parc Penalta.

The route includes a notable ascent over Mynydd Machen, which reaches about 362 metres. Total ascent for the course is given as approximately 4,252 feet. Terrain is largely off-road, described as about 90% trail and 10% road. There are three fully manned and stocked checkpoints offering snacks, fresh fruit, hot and cold drinks, seating, power banks and music. Organisers state there are no fixed time limits for completion.

Organisers provide route files via plotaroute to allow last-minute updates and downloads for navigation devices. Mandatory kit listed for participants includes appropriate footwear, a one litre water carrier, a mobile phone, a headlamp or other light source, a foil blanket, a waterproof jacket and a rucksack. Entry items noted by organisers include a commemorative medal, post race care and staffed checkpoints.

Participants are asked to communicate any dietary requirements in advance so checkpoints can be accommodated. Event communications include scheduled pre-event emails and a brief wellbeing phone call from organisers in the days before the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
