Route and logistics
The route follows the Rhymney Valley Ridgeway Walk, a waymarked circular long-distance footpath that runs around the ridge tops of the Caerphilly basin and encircles the River Rhymney. The route uses lanes, trails and woodland and offers views across south east Wales. The highest point on the trail is Mynydd Machen at 362 metres (1,188 ft), located between Risca and the village of Machen in Caerphilly County Borough.
There are three manned checkpoints along the route. Checkpoints are stocked with snacks, fresh fruit, hot and cold drinks, seating and power banks. Organisers will accommodate dietary requirements if provided at registration. There is no overall time limit for the event. Compulsory kit listed by the organisers includes appropriate footwear (no high heels), a 1 litre water carrier, mobile phone, compass (mobile-phone version acceptable), headlamp or other light source, foil blanket, waterproof jacket and rucksack. Organisers will send scheduled pre-event communications by email and a pre-event phone call. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
