The Descent 1
The Descent 1 is a point-to-point, net downhill road race running from Scammonden to West Vale. The course covers 10km with an approximate net descent of 300 metres. The whole route is on surfaced roads, featuring wide, quiet upland roads, open views and long runnable downhill sections that lead to a finish deep in the valley.
The event is presented as a single flowing route without loops or trails. The course is described as well-marked and chip-timed and is designed to be run in road shoes. Emphasis is placed on speed, simplicity and scenic roads.
On event day, registration takes place at the finish location in West Vale and bus transport is provided to the start. Presentations occur after runners have finished. All finishers receive a medal at the finish; a t-shirt is not included unless pre-ordered.
The event notes a maximum of 100 entries and indicates places are limited. The Descent 1 is described as the original route in this series and focuses on a continuous downhill journey from hillside to town. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
