The Cross Fell Race for GNAAS

This is the sixth edition of this fell race, which is a FRA (Fell Runners Association) race. All entry fees go to two local charities: Langwathby Air Ambulance (GNAAS) and Garrigill Village Hall.

The route is a 24 km lasso starting and finishing in the village of Garrigill. It has 680 m of total climb. The course takes in the summit of Cross Fell, which is the highest Pennine peak, and passes the source of the River Tees. It uses the Pennine Way and bridle paths, is fully marshalled, and offers views over the Eden Valley. The event takes place in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Registration and the race HQ are at Garrigill Village Hall. Parking is available with marshals giving directions. Changing facilities, a shower, and toilets are available in the hall. Refreshments are provided free to all runners after the race. Prizes are awarded for winners of each age category and for teams of three runners, for both men and women.

The race operates under FRA rules. Participants must carry full body cover (with taped seams), a hat, gloves, a map, a compass, and a whistle. There is a cut-off time at a checkpoint, which also serves as a bad weather return point. Entry on the day is allowed for an extra fee. The minimum age for entry is 18. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
