The Colyten

The ColyTEN

The ColyTEN is a scenic multi-terrain 10 mile race that starts and finishes in Colyton. The course is roughly 80% off road and includes river-side footpaths, woodland trails and short road sections.

The route begins beside the River Coly a short walk from Race HQ. After an initial riverside footpath and a brief road section to Chantry Bridge, runners head off road, cross the river and make a steep ascent through Ox Woods. From the summit there is a short descent down Jobbles Lane into Morganhayes woodland, an undulating section with a couple of steep climbs and a short road section. Exiting the woods leaves about three miles that are mainly downhill or flat with around one mile on road. The finish is a lap of the playing field where finishers receive a medal and refreshments including a drink and flapjack.

Race HQ is at the Peace Memorial Playing Fields for registration, number collection and bag drop; numbers should be pinned to the front of the vest with personal details completed on the reverse. On-site toilet facilities are available. Two cup-less water stations are sited at about 2.5 and 7.5 miles and a three hour cut-off is enforced. No headphones are allowed during the race and dogs are not permitted at Race HQ. Parking is limited on site, in Colyton town centre and in a field opposite Shiphay Farm about a 10 minute walk from Race HQ. Minimum age is 17 or older. Entry fees are £20 affiliated and £22 unaffiliated; on-the-day entries may be available. The event is organised by Axe Valley Runners in association with Colyton Football Club and a donation from proceeds will be made to Devon Air Ambulance.
