Salmon Run
Salmon Run on 19 September 2026 is a river-focused running event that follows the Exe Valley Way from Exmouth to Dulverton and aims to draw attention to the Atlantic salmon and river health. The event comprises a solo ultra and a team relay that both follow the same route toward the salmon spawning grounds on Exmoor.
Distances include:
- Ultra distance of 43 miles.
- Relay sections varying from about 2 to 11 miles.
- First relay leg includes a 5 km collaboration with Exmouth Parkrun.
The relay is non-competitive; teams may include up to eight runners and each team runs a single section while carrying a symbolic salmon baton called Samantha, which is passed between different teams. The ultra continues to the finish on the Green in Dulverton. Organisers note a 12 hour cut off for the ultra, total ascent of 1050 metres and advise runners to bring torches. Everyone receives a medal. A GPX map is available and further route maps are published on the Tidelines blog.
Salmon Run is presented by Wild Running in collaboration with the Tidelines project and supports conservation partners including Westcountry Rivers Trust, Friends of the River Exe and Riverfly Survey. The route includes intermittent community activities such as live music, a family orchestra at Exwick, games and small ceremonial performances that accompany runners along the river.
