About the race
THE CHASE OKC is a trail event near Guthrie, Oklahoma that pairs timed races with a live chaser called the CLAW. Every runner receives a unique CHASE bib with a tear tag. Runners are given a five minute head start before the CLAW is released onto the course to attempt to take tags from participants. Races are on trail terrain that includes dirt, rocks, roots, elevation, and sometimes pavement and gravel.
If a runner reaches the finish with the tag still attached they are marked as ESCAPED THE CLAW; if the tag is removed on course they are marked as CLAWED. Getting caught does not end the race; caught runners hand over the tag and continue to the finish. Bib tags must be visible at all times or the runner faces disqualification. All finishers receive THE CHASE finisher medal with an attachment showing ESCAPED THE CLAW or CLAWED, and all participants receive a CHASE tee.
There are 1st place male and female awards for both distances. The event provides water, basic hydration, and snacks at the start/finish area as a cupless event, and one CLAW is assigned per 150 runners and per distance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
