The Cedar Grove Scamper

The Cedar Grove Scamper is a spring 4 mile race presented by Chico Running Club on May 17, 2026, at the Cedar Grove Picnic Area in Bidwell Park, Chico, California. Race proceeds support Chico Running Club programs, including a scholarship fund and the club's non-profit mission to support running events and local runners.

The course is a 4 mile loop through lower Bidwell Park that starts and ends at the Cedar Grove picnic area. Surfaces include pavement and dirt trail. The route crosses the Forest Avenue bridge to the north side of Big Chico Creek, runs up Peterson Memorial Drive, doubles back on the Vallombrosa dirt trail, and returns via South Park Drive after the Highway 99 over-crossing.

There are two divisions: Open Division (all ages) and Masters Division (ages 40 and up). Prizes are awarded to top finishers in each division. Bibs are provided to all entrants; packet pick-up is available at Fleet Feet on May 15 from 1:30 to 4:30, and bib pick-up is available the day of the race at Cedar Grove starting at 7:30. Timing is performed by Chico Running Club.

One water station is located at the halfway point; participants are advised to carry additional water or food as needed. Water and snacks are available at the start and finish, and park restrooms are available at Cedar Grove. Parking is at the Cedar Grove dirt lot with overflow on East 8th Street. Registrants who chose the shirt option and registered before May 1 will receive a shirt for a $15 fee. Volunteers are welcome. Sponsor tiers include T-Shirt, Refreshment, and Event Sponsor. Race insurance is provided by a RunSignUp partner; Chico Running Club does not provide or administer race insurance if participants choose to purchase it.
