The Cape Clear Island Races
The Cape Clear Island Races take place on Cape Clear Island in West Cork on 29 August 2026. The event uses island trails and lanes to offer off-road running over two main distances with options for ferry transport.
Courses include:
- Half Marathon including chartered raceboat
- 10 km including chartered raceboat
- Half Marathon non raceboat entry, own transport required
- 10 km non raceboat entry, own transport required
The raceboat option includes a chartered ferry to and from Cape Clear Island from Baltimore harbour. The non raceboat option provides race entry only and requires participants to make their own way to and from the island; the scheduled public ferry will not get participants to the start line on time.
Age limits are 17 years or older and 75 years or younger on the event date. Entries opened 18 December 2025 and close 23 August 2026. At the time of listing there were 479 entries and 12 people on the waiting list. Entry fees vary by course and ferry option, ranging from €65 to €115.
Cape Clear Island is a Gaeltacht community of about 130 people with a network of hiking trails. The island offers coastal views including Roaringwater Bay, Sherkin Island and Fastnet Rock Lighthouse about 6 km west. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
