The Cape Clear Island Races
The Cape Clear Island Races take place on Cape Clear Island, West Cork, on Saturday 29 August 2026. The event uses island trails and lanes to create trail running courses that showcase coastal views across Roaringwater Bay, Fastnet Rock Lighthouse and eastwards toward Sherkin Island and the mainland.
Cape Clear Island is a Gaeltacht area with a population of about 130. The island has a network of hiking trails, local lanes, and a mix of island activities such as arts and crafts, lavender production, goat farming, and a distillery known for lavender gin.
Two race distances are offered:
- Half Marathon
- 10km
Entry fees vary by distance and by date, and the entry fee includes the return ferry crossing from Baltimore harbour to Cape Clear Island. The event specifies age eligibility with a minimum age of 17 and a maximum age of 75, both relative to the event date. Entries open on 18 December 2025 and close on 23 August 2026. The event provides standard terms and a cancellation/refund policy, and offers an optional XCover insurance product for possible refunds in case of unforeseen circumstances.
