Event
The MTC POOKA is a single-day ultra running event on 8 May 2026. The race distance is 38 miles. It is Day 1 of the MTC MizMal® fourteen day end-to-end of Ireland and part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge series. This is the first edition. Total ascent is 830.8 metres and total descent is 892.5 metres. All finishers receive a bespoke POOKA medal; male and female champions receive trophies (designs pending).
Route and logistics
The route starts on Mizen Road, Cloghane, Goleen and concludes at the Eccles Hotel, Glengarriff. Most of the route follows the MizMal® route as provided by Wild Atlantic Cycling. There are three staffed checkpoints at approximately 8.7 miles, 17.5 miles and 27.1 miles. The organisers provide competitor tracking devices with real-time monitoring and an SOS function. Maps and GPX files are issued to entrants and emailed about four weeks before the event. The race is cup-free; competitors must carry a reusable cup.
Entries are limited to 20 race-only places with an additional allowance of 20 MizMal® competitors (maximum 40). Entry fees are stated as £90 for the race and £155 for a Plus package that includes an embroidered race shirt and lightweight hi-viz jacket (clothing orders must be placed at least four weeks before the event). All payments are non-refundable; a personal cancellation insurance option and a defer option (fee applies) are available. Entrants must be aged 20 or over on race day. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food.
