The MTC MizMal
The MTC MizMal is a fourteen-day foot race spanning the length of Ireland from Mizen Head to Malin Head. Covering a total distance of approximately 612 to 618 miles, the event follows a route inspired by the Wild Atlantic Way. Participants average just over 44 miles per day. Each of the fourteen days functions as an individual ultra-marathon, themed after various figures from Irish mythology.
The race is part of a larger series of end-to-end challenges. Entrants must maintain a minimum average speed of 4 mph over the course of the event. To ensure feasibility for support services, the field is limited to 20 competitors. Runners are provided with technical apparel and footwear from event sponsors, and a tracking device is issued to monitor progress in real-time.
Food and accommodation are integrated into the event structure. The organizer provides accommodation from the end of the first day through the twelfth day, typically using hotels, hostels, and guest houses on a shared-room basis. Breakfasts and evening meals are included, though specific dietary requirements may require participants to provide supplementary items.
The daily distances in the series are:
- Day 1: 38 miles
- Day 2: 43.2 miles
- Day 3: 47.3 miles
- Day 4: 50 miles
- Day 5: 44.4 miles
- Day 6: 46 miles
- Day 7: 35.7 miles
- Day 8: 58.2 miles
- Day 9: 52.4 miles
- Day 10: 46.7 miles
- Day 11: 47 miles
- Day 12: 38 miles
- Day 13: 37.4 miles
- Day 14: 27.5 miles
Successful finishers receive fifteen bespoke medals - one for each day completed and a final race medal - along with a trophy and a bottle of champagne. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
