Event
The MTC MizMal ® is a fourteen-day end-to-end ultra running challenge in Ireland held 7th - 20th May 2027. The event is the Ireland leg of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge series and is listed as the first edition. Total distance is given as about 612 miles (daily stages total 611.8 miles). The organiser limits entries to 20 competitors. Finishers receive a bespoke trophy, an overall MizMal ® medal plus individual day medals, and a bottle of champagne.
Route and logistics
The event is run as fourteen individual ultra stages. Daily stages and distances are:
- Day 1 - Pooka - 38 miles
- Day 2 - Leprechaun - 43.2 miles
- Day 3 - Macha - 47.3 miles
- Day 4 - Shamrock - 50 miles
- Day 5 - Banshee - 44.4 miles
- Day 6 - Dullahan - 46 miles
- Day 7 - Enbarr - 35.7 miles
- Day 8 - Oilliphéist - 58.2 miles
- Day 9 - Gancanagh - 52.4 miles
- Day 10 - Abhartach - 46.7 miles
- Day 11 - Balor - 47 miles
- Day 12 - Carman - 38 miles
- Day 13 - Bodach - 37.4 miles
- Day 14 - Aibell - 27.5 miles
The organiser provides route maps and GPX files to entrants four weeks before the event and issues tracking devices with SOS functionality. There are preset cut-offs based on a minimum average of 4 mph; competitors falling below this standard may be withdrawn, and no competitor may continue on course after 22:00. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and a waterproof map case. Accommodation is arranged for the end of Days 1–12; competitors must book their own accommodation at the start and after the finish. The event’s nominated charity is Spinal Research.
