MTC MizMal ®
The MTC MizMal ® is a fourteen day, point to point ultrarunning challenge across Ireland. The event comprises fourteen individual daily ultras that together cover approximately 612 miles. The route runs between Mizen Head and Malin Head and follows the established MizMal ® line used by Wild Atlantic Cycling.
Each day is a named stage in the Myths and Legends of MizMal ® series and has a published distance:
- Day 1 – MTC Pooka: 38 miles
- Day 2 – MTC Leprechaun: 43.2 miles
- Day 3 – MTC Macha: 47.3 miles
- Day 4 – MTC Shamrock: 50 miles
- Day 5 – MTC Banshee: 44.4 miles
- Day 6 – MTC Dullahan: 46 miles
- Day 7 – MTC Enbarr: 35.7 miles
- Day 8 – MTC Oilliphéist: 58.2 miles
- Day 9 – MTC Gancanagh: 52.4 miles
- Day 10 – MTC Abhartach: 46.7 miles
- Day 11 – MTC Balor: 47 miles
- Day 12 – MTC Carman: 38 miles
- Day 13 – MTC Bodach: 37.4 miles
- Day 14 – MTC Aibell: 27.5 miles
Entrants receive route maps and GPX files by email before the event and are issued tracking devices with SOS capability. Competitors must carry mandatory kit such as a backpack, head torch, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone and basic first aid. Cutoffs are based on a minimum average of 4.0 miles per hour and competitors may be withdrawn if they fail to meet this. Accommodation is arranged for the majority of stages; competitors are responsible for their own accommodation at the start and after the finish. Entry places are limited to 20. Finishers receive bespoke medals for each day, an overall MizMal ® medal and a finisher trophy and bottle of champagne. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
