Event Overview
The MTC Bristol Severn is a 30-mile ultra marathon point-to-point race. The event is described as "a comparatively flat race" with just one small hill. The course record is 4 hours and 51 minutes.
Route Description
The route starts at Travelodge Stonehouse and soon rejoins the Severn Path at Purton. It continues along the river, passing Sharpness, Newton, and circumnavigating the Berkeley Power Station. The path goes back to the river at Oldbury-on-Severn, Oldbury Pill, and Littleton Pill, before passing under the M48 and M4 motorway bridges. It finishes at the mouth of the River Severn at Severn Beach.
Logistics and Support
The race features two checkpoints providing food and drink, with vegan-friendly options. Examples given are malt loaf, jam or peanut butter sandwiches, nuts, fruit, squash, cola, and water. The event is cup-free, so participants must bring their own reusable cup. All finishers receive a bespoke medal and a Mount to Coast head visor. The first male and female finishers receive a special trophy.
Participant Requirements
Competitors must maintain a minimum average speed of 4 miles per hour to continue. The race is point-to-point, and runners are responsible for their own travel to the start and from the finish. A mandatory kit list includes a backpack, route maps or GPS device, mobile phone, and a basic first aid kit. The use of GPX files for navigation is strongly recommended as the path can be overgrown.
