Event overview
The Meteor Mile is an annual running event held at Gloucestershire Airport, Staverton. It began in 2013 and was reinstated in 2023 after a three-year hiatus related to the Covid pandemic and subsequent groundwork. The event is traditionally held on a Saturday evening at the start of September; the next scheduled date is Friday 28th August 2026. Chip timing has been introduced to the event.
Course and organisation
The course uses the airport runway and a section of support road, finishing adjacent to the terminal building. Course segments include:
- 300 m along the support road
- 1k-plus dash along the runway toward the terminal
- 200 m final section to the finish
The event emphasises a social and inclusive atmosphere and encourages children to take part. Every finisher receives a bespoke medal. Prizes are awarded for the first male and female adult and junior (U15) finishers, and the host club also awards prizes to the first male and female club finishers. The Aviator bar at the airport is the venue for prize giving and post-race refreshments. Results from recent years are recorded and available. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
