Meteor Mile
The Meteor Mile will take place on Friday 28th August 2026 at Gloucestershire Airport, Staverton. The event is run on the airport site and uses the main runway together with a section of support road.
The course begins with the first 300 metres along the support road before a right turn onto the runway for a 1k-plus dash towards the terminal. Runners then peel off to the right for the final 200 metres to the finish adjacent to the terminal building. Runway lights are used against the setting sun in the event staging.
First held in 2013, the race is a relatively recent addition to the Almost Athletes calendar and was traditionally staged on a Saturday evening at the beginning of September. The event had a three year hiatus because of the Covid pandemic and subsequent groundwork, and it was reinstated in 2023.
Chip timing has been introduced recently. The event combines competitive elements with a social and inclusive focus; children are encouraged to take part. Every finisher receives a bespoke medal. Prizes are awarded to the first male and female adult and junior U15 finishers, and the host club also awards prizes to its first male and female club finishers. The Aviator bar is used for the prize giving and post race socialising. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
