Event overview

The Brails - Four Colour Local Event is an orienteering event on Saturday 7th February at The Brails, located between Hungerford and Marlborough. Parking is at Hillbarn Farm, about 600 m east of Wilton Windmill. The site grid reference is SU 282 618 and the nearest postcode is SN8 3SW. Access is by permission of the estate owner. Entry is online only; there will be no entry on the day.

Courses and entry

  • Blue - 5.7 km, 100 m climb; suitable for experienced orienteers only.
  • Green - 4.0 km, 75 m climb; suitable for experienced orienteers only.
  • Orange - 2.9 km, 35 m climb; suitable for all orienteers.
  • Yellow - 1.9 km, 35 m climb; suitable for beginners.

Entries open 12 January. Standard entry rates from 12 January include Senior £10.00 and Junior/Student £2.00; a non-member supplement of £1.00 and chip hire £2.00 apply. Late entry fees are higher and late entry may be possible while maps last. A group entry option is available only for the Orange and Yellow courses.

Map, timing and safety

The map scale is 1:10,000 with 5 m contours and is printed on waterproof paper. Timing uses SportIdent; controls will be SIAC enabled for compatible dibbers and hire dibbers will be non-SIAC SI-Card 8. Full leg cover must be worn and whistles must be carried. A first aid kit will be available; no toilet facilities are provided. Competitors must report to download if retiring. Bio-security guidance and restrictions on cultivated fields apply. Non-members of British Orienteering are not covered by British Orienteering public liability insurance as of January 2026 and will be charged a supplement.
