The Bog Run 2026
The Bog Run takes place on 11 October 2026 in Castlewellan, Co. Down. It is the tenth and final edition of the event, first held in 2015, and is organised to raise funds for Cancer Fund for Children, which supports children and young people affected by cancer across the island of Ireland.
The event features a muddy 5 km course that runs on and off forest paths. The route includes crawling through bushes, climbing over trees and wading through mud pits that can be very deep. The senior course includes a short section of lake that can reach waist depth. The junior course follows the same route with the lake and some mud pits removed.
There are two entry categories with specific age rules: a Junior event for ages 8 to 14, requiring an accompanying adult (maximum two children per adult), and a Senior event open to those aged 12 and over, with participants aged 12 to 17 required to take part with an adult. Online registration closes on Thursday 8 October and no on-the-day registrations are accepted.
On-site facilities and services include shower facilities, a bag drop and changing tents. All registered participants receive post-race snacks and a medal. The event lists a parking charge of £5 per car, free event t-shirts for supporters as part of registration, and additional family-friendly activities such as face painting. The Bog Run emphasises fundraising and asks participants to meet sponsorship targets to support the charity's services. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
