The Blue Move
The Blue Move is an annual athletic event held in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, now in its ninth year. The event takes place at Fawick Park in the downtown area. Participants follow a paved out and back trail that runs alongside the Big Sioux River. The event serves to support colorectal cancer awareness and provides funding for medical procedures for underserved patients at Falls Community Health.
The course features educational markers at every half mile interval where participants can learn facts about colorectal cancer. The finish line includes a large, inflatable colon that runners and walkers pass through to complete their distance. Registration is open to the general public, including specific participation options for different age groups and teams.
The available distances include:
- 5k running race
- 1 Mile walk
Children aged 10 and under can participate without a registration fee. The event is accessible for those using strollers, and dogs are permitted to join provided they remain on a leash. For the 5k event, awards are presented to the top two male and female runners, the top two runners aged 15 and under, and the five person team with the best collective time. Other recognitions are given for the participant wearing the most blue clothing, the first person to register, and the individual who traveled the furthest distance to attend.
