MLK Jr. Freedom Run Sacramento
The MLK Jr. Freedom Run takes place on January 16, 2027 at Sutter's Landing Regional Park on 28th Street in Sacramento, California. The event is organized to coincide with Martin Luther King Jr. Day and to honor his legacy of justice, equality, and peace.
The event format includes multiple course options and a virtual alternative:
- 5K
- 10K
- Half marathon 13.1
- Virtual run
- Family 1 mile fun run
Waves are capped and filled on a first come, first serve basis; a wait list and a virtual option are available when waves sell out. The run is described as a smaller, private group run with coordinators supporting participants in a low-stress setting.
Timing is optional and there are no timing chips; participants may track efforts with apps and submit times for posting, or ask coordinators to record times. Packet pickup is not required because participant swag is shipped to the US mailing address provided at registration; race bibs are distributed on race day. Swag items listed by the organizer include a running T-shirt, a finisher towel or giveaway, a finisher medal, a digital training pack, online results and a certificate, plus an invitation to join local running clubs. A technical shirt upgrade is offered for an additional fee. Organizers note that every mile logged after the race may trigger a donation of one dollar to partner charities; fundraising is optional. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
