MaraFUNrun
MaraFUNrun is a community running event hosted by the non-profit Runnin' for Rhett at William Land Park in Sacramento, near the intersection of Freeport and Sutterville. The event brings together roughly 3,000 youth athletes from the Sacramento area to complete a 5K race that marks the end of six weeks in the after-school Youth Fitness Program.
The event offers multiple distances:
- 5K
- Untimed 1/4 mile dash for children 8 and under
The 5K course starts near Sutterville and Freeport, follows tree-lined streets through the park for miles 1 and 2, and returns to the finish near the start. There is one aid station on the course that provides water and a restroom near the midpoint. Portable restrooms are also available at the start/finish area.
Practical details published by the organizer include on-site packet pickup on race morning near the start line, a packet that contains a bib and shirt, chip timing for 5K participants, and a race-day registration option. Entry fees listed are $35 plus a convenience fee for the 5K and $15 plus a convenience fee for the untimed dash. Parking recommendations note Sac City College as a nearby option with a small fee, and local transit providers may offer free rides on race day.
Runnin' for Rhett describes the event as one of the culminating 5K events for its youth training program and places the activity within its broader mission to help youth adopt healthy, active lifestyles. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
