The MLK Jr. Freedom Run takes place on January 16, 2027, at Mill Creek Park on Broadway Boulevard in Kansas City, Missouri. The event marks Martin Luther King Jr. Day and presents in-person and virtual options for participants.
The event offers multiple distance options and capped start waves. All ages and paces are welcome; participants under 18 must be accompanied by a guardian. Participants may run or walk. Timing is optional: there are no timing chips, and runners can track times with common apps and submit results for online posting and a certificate of completion.
Race services and items include a swag bag shipped to the registrant’s US mailing address, a running T-shirt, a finisher’s towel or giveaway, a finisher’s medal, and a digital training pack. Race bibs are provided on race day. A technical running shirt upgrade is available for an additional fee.
The virtual run option includes a digital training pack and allows completion at any time and place using a tracking device; virtual finishers can submit results to receive a medal. Organizers operate with limited-capacity waves that close when full and provide final race updates and course information before the event.
