Event overview
The Holiday Luminary event at the Overland Park Arboretum includes a 5K and a 1 Mile run on Friday, November 20, 2026, at 9209 W 179th Street, Overland Park, KS 66013. Registration fees listed on the event page are $35 for the 5K and $25 for the 1 Mile. The arboretum requires a separate mandatory admission ticket for anyone attending: $7 for adults, $3 for ages 6-17, and free for children 5 and under. Admission tickets are distributed at packet pickup.

The start and finish are near the LongHouse Visitors Center. The 1 Mile route uses paved sidewalks on the holiday luminary trail. The 5K begins on the trail, continues onto less-traveled arboretum acreage with a mostly paved outer road, loops back under tree canopies, and finishes on the luminary path. The beginning and end of the 5K and the entire 1 Mile are surrounded by holiday lights; portions of the 5K outer loop will be darker and additional lighting will be placed. Headlamps or flashlights are recommended for the 5K.
Restrooms are available in the main building near the start/finish and about 0.25 miles into the course; there is no restroom on the outer loop until return. Packet pickup is on Thursday, November 19 from 12:00pm-5:00pm at the Arboretum, with day-of pickup opening at 4:30pm. Strollers are allowed with minor off-road sections; dogs are not permitted in the Arboretum Gardens. Finishers receive lighted medals; long-sleeve event shirts are provided to registrants who sign up before the shirt deadline on November 17.
