The Barley Chase
The Barley Chase is a USATF Certified running event located in Newport, North Carolina. The race is organized annually in conjunction with the anniversary celebration of Shortway Brewing Company. The proceeds from the event benefit Bread & Barley, a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that uses funds to support needs within the local community.
The course for both distances starts and finishes at Shortway Brewing Co. and travels through the central areas of Newport. Water stations are positioned at the halfway points of each route. The available distances include:
- 5k
- 10k
Participants receive a t-shirt, a finisher medal, and access to an after-party which includes two post-run pints for those with valid identification. T-shirt sizes are guaranteed for those who register by late August. Identification checks are required for all participants at the venue.
Awards are presented to the top three overall male and female finishers. Additionally, the top two finishers in various age divisions for both males and females receive awards. These divisions range from 14 and under up to 70 and above. Packet pickup is available the day before the race at the brewery or on the morning of the event at a registration table located on Haskett Street.
