The Alley Loop
The Alley Loop is a Nordic ski event in Crested Butte taking place January 30, 2027. It is an American Birkebeiner qualifying race and includes a prominent costume component with a judged costume contest on course.
The course runs through snowy streets, alleyways, and narrow bridges in downtown Crested Butte before continuing onto the Crested Butte Nordic trail network with groomed tracks and mountain views. The event program includes multiple individual and youth races plus a related skiathlon on the following day as part of the Pinnacle Orthopedics Community Race Series.

- 10k freestyle
- 5k freestyle
- 1k youth
- 3k youth
- Son of an Alley Loop Skiathlon 10km and 6km, plus a free 2km kids race
Awards and services are listed for each distance. Prize purses are offered for top finishers in 42k, 21k, 10k and 5k fields, and finishers under three hours in the 42k receive a Sub 3 Hour Marathon Achievement Bell. Age class winners receive a commemorative pint glass. Youth participants receive a commemorative sticker and are not given podium awards. Costume awards feature curated prize packages from local businesses.
A limited wax service is offered by Rex Wax with a non fluorinated race wax option priced at $65. Rental equipment may be reserved through CB Nordic and must be returned on the day of the participant s race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
