Distances

  • 23.5 miles (competitive course)
  • 17.85 miles (recreational course)

Course, logistics, and requirements

Both courses circumnavigate Gothic Mountain and finish on the CB Nordic trail system at the Magic Meadows Yurt. The competitive course starts behind the Crested Butte Community School; the recreational course starts at the Snodgrass Trailhead. The event is minimally supported; aid stations at Gothic Townsite, Top of the World, and Pittsburgh Townsite provide hydration and some nutrition. Race staff will transport one small finish-line bag to the Magic Meadows Yurt. The finish is about a mile from the trailhead and shuttles will circulate to return racers to parking areas.

Mandatory gear includes avalanche beacon, shovel, and probe, plus personal protection such as a helmet, neck gaiter or balaclava, and emergency insulation layers (jacket and pants). A Colorado Outdoor Search and Rescue Card or a current Colorado hunting/fishing license is required and proof must be shown at bib pick-up. The event includes volunteer roles and offers event prizes, including a $100 Top-of-the-World premium and random finish-line raffle awards.
