Tex Mex 5K Race for Open Space 2026
The Tex Mex 5K Race for Open Space is a midweek running event held in North Wales, Pennsylvania. Now in its 35th year, this evening competition is organized by Tex Mex Connection and serves as a significant fundraiser for Wissahickon Trails. The proceeds from the event support environmental conservation, specifically the protection and restoration of land and waterways within the Wissahickon Valley.
The event features a single distance:
- 5 km
Participants receive several amenities with their registration, including a professional digital finish photo and a short-sleeve tech t-shirt, which is guaranteed for those who register by early May. Following the run, an outdoor celebration takes place featuring live music from a local band. All participants receive a dinner provided by Tex Mex Connection and one complimentary margarita or craft beer for those aged 21 and over.
The race utilizes chip timing to determine winners across various categories. Awards are presented to the top three overall male and female finishers, as well as the top performers in the masters division for those aged 40 and older. Additionally, prizes are designated for the top three finishers in five-year age groups, ranging from 15 and under to 70 and older.
Packet pick-up is located at 201 East Walnut Street on the day before the race and on the day of the event. For those interested in additional support, the Green Ribbon Champion program offers access to a VIP tent for individuals or teams who meet specific fundraising milestones.
