Racing combines mountain biking, trekking and kayaking across an unmarked course where teams use a printed map to locate checkpoints. The Explorer course includes approximately 7 km mountain bike, 2 km trekking and 1 km kayaking. The Challenger course includes approximately 17 km mountain bike, 6 km trekking and 1 to 2 km kayaking.
Included with entry are access to the ARC of Franschhoek venue, the printed race map, kayak and paddles, a finisher's medal, medical support and a prize giving ceremony. Mountain bikes and personal cycling helmets are not included; a cycling helmet is listed as compulsory. Additional items not included are personal clothing, footwear, food, bike spares and tools. A map board is available for hire and PFD rental is offered if participants choose to use their own equipment.
The event notes that no previous adventure racing experience is required and that basic map reading ability is sufficient to take part. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
