Terra Nova Adventure Race
The Terra Nova Adventure Race takes place at the ARC of Franschhoek by the Berg River Dam. Teams of two navigate an unmarked course using a printed Google map supplied by the organisers. The race combines mountain biking, trekking, and kayaking to locate checkpoints and reach the finish.
Two entry categories are offered:
- Explorer 10 km : approx 7 km mountain bike, 2 km trekking, 1 km kayaking
- Challenger 25 km : approx 17 km mountain bike, 6 km trekking, 1–2 km kayaking
The event includes a printed race map, kayak with paddles and PFD, a finisher's medal, medical support, and a prize giving ceremony. Mountain bikes, cycling helmets, personal clothing and footwear, food and refreshments, and bike spares or repairs are not included. A map board is available for hire. Participants must supply all mandatory equipment listed in the event information.
No previous adventure racing experience is required; basic map reading and outdoor fitness are sufficient to take part. The venue is located on Robertsvlei Road near the centre of Franschhoek. Directions are provided from Cape Town via the N1 and R45, and the ARC of Franschhoek entrance is at Robertsvlei Road. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
