Teddy Bear Trot - Wyomissing
The Teddy Bear Trot is an annual community run held at Eight-Twenty at the Mills in Wyomissing, PA. The event asks each participant to bring a brand new teddy bear that will be donated to Opportunity House for use in its Learning Center. A Teddy Bear Tag making station and a photo area are provided for donors to personalize and document their contributions. Participants deliver the bears to the Opportunity House Early Learning Center, where some children will be present to receive donations and may take a bear home.
The activity is organized as a social group run rather than a timed race. After the donation stop the group continues to complete a 3 mile fun run, with group leaders guiding participants along the route. Runners are organized into three pace groups: walkers and 13+ minute milers, 10–12 minute milers, and 8–10 minute milers, so participants can join the pace that matches their usual speed.
Event proceeds are donated to Opportunity House to support services for the homeless community. Additional monetary donations, non-perishable food items and blankets are collected at the start location. The first 120 participants receive a custom ear warmer headband. A deluxe hot cocoa station is available at Eight-Twenty at the Mills after the run, and there is an opportunity to wear-test Karhu shoes during the event.
