12th Annual Tear Drop Half Marathon, 10K & 5K
The Tear Drop Half Marathon is a point-to-point race in Georgia that takes place on paved roads, starting on top of Fort Mountain and finishing in Chatsworth City Park. The event features three different course distances, all of which are USAT&F certified:
- Half Marathon (21.1 km)
- 10 km
- 5 km
The courses are characterized by a significant net descent. The Half Marathon begins at an elevation near 3,000 feet and drops over 2,000 feet to the finish line. This route includes 7 miles of a 5-10% grade downhill followed by flat to rolling terrain. While primarily a downhill race, the Half Marathon includes an out-and-back section on top of the mountain with several climbs. The 10 km and 5 km routes include 5 miles and 2 miles of downhill running, respectively.
Participants are transported from the finish area at City Park to the various start lines via shuttle buses. The event has specific capacity limits, with 300 spots for the Half Marathon, 150 for the 10 km, and 100 for the 5 km. All finishers receive a custom medal and a long-sleeve shirt. The finish line festivities include live music and hot food. The event supports the Murray Arts Council, a local organization that provides arts programming in Murray County.
A 3-hour time limit is enforced for the Half Marathon due to highway permit requirements. Support stations providing water, sports drinks, and bathrooms are located at various intervals along all three courses. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
