Course and logistics
All distances start on top of Fort Mountain at an elevation near 3,000 feet and finish in Chatsworth. The half marathon has an overall elevation drop of over 2,000 feet. All courses are USATF certified and run on paved roads through the Cohutta Wilderness Area. Downhill segments noted by the organizer: the half includes about 7 miles of 5-10% grade downhill, the 10K includes about 5 miles downhill, and the 5K includes about 2 miles downhill. The half uses an out-and-back section on the mountain and includes some climbs.
Runners park at the finish and are shuttled to start locations on Fort Mountain. There are water stations and portable toilets on course (half: four stations; 10K: two; 5K: one). A SAG vehicle follows the last runner and may transport participants who cannot maintain the permitted pace. Awards include medals for all finishers, age-group awards for each distance, and plaques for overall half-marathon winners. Post-race food, cold drinks, live music, race photos, and a race charity partner are provided. Transfers between distances are allowed under organizer rules.
