Event overview
The Tear Drop event on Sunday, April 26, 2026 in Chatsworth, Georgia includes a Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K. All races start on Fort Mountain at an elevation near 3,000 feet and finish at Chatsworth City Park (400 N 2nd Ave). The half marathon has an overall drop of more than 2,000 feet. All courses are USATF certified and run on paved roads through the Cohutta Wilderness Area. The courses include extended downhill sections:
- Half Marathon - 7 miles of 5-10% grade downhill.
- 10K - 5 miles downhill.
- 5K - 2 miles downhill.
The half marathon uses an out-and-back segment on top of the mountain and includes several climbs in addition to downhill sections.
Logistics, support and amenities
Runners park at the finish area and are shuttled to their race start; personal vehicle drop-off is allowed at the half marathon start only and parking at the start is not permitted. Each distance has bathrooms at its start. Water stations and portable toilets are placed as follows: half marathon at miles 4, 7, 10 and 12; 10K at miles 3 and 5; 5K at mile 2. A SAG vehicle follows the last runner and may transport participants who cannot maintain pace; the permitted road closure for Hwy 52 is limited. All finishers receive a custom medal and a short-sleeve T-shirt. Age-group awards are offered for all distances; overall and masters plaques are provided for the half marathon. On-course photography, post-race food and cold drinks are provided, with beer available for participants 21 and older. The Murray Arts Council is the charity partner.
