Tavy 7 Road Race

The Tavy 7 is a long-standing road race established in the late 1980s. The event takes place in late October on the western edge of Dartmoor. The course is undulating and follows a scenic route through the moorland landscape. The race utilizes narrow tarmac country roads for the majority of the distance, with the start and finish areas located in a field.

The primary route begins at Plaster Down and passes through the hamlet of Sampford Spiney and near Pew Tor. The event features two distinct distances:

• 7 miles: Open to runners aged 16 and older, with a limit of 600 participants.
• 1 mile: A fun run for junior participants aged 6 and over.

The 7-mile course is officially measured and includes mile markers and two water stations. This race also hosts the Ross Shield, which is the oldest running championship in Devon for affiliated clubs. Participants in the main race receive a medal upon finishing, and there is an option to purchase a technical T-shirt during the registration process.

Facilities at the site include race parking and a food and drink van located at the start and finish line. Race numbers are collected on the day of the event.
