Cosdon Hill Race
The Cosdon Hill Race is a traditional fell race held during the Belstone village fair. Runners set out from Belstone Village, make a compulsory visit to Cosdon Beacon, then return to finish on the village green by The Tors Inn. The course is on rough open terrain and requires self-navigation; there are no course markers and all runners must give their race number to stewards at the beacon checkpoint.
The main course is approximately 3.1 miles with a climb of around 300 m. The event is held under the rules of the Fell Runners Association and carries the FRA classification AS. There is no mandatory kit list, but a whistle, raincoat and hat are advisable in poor weather; a map and compass are recommended for those unfamiliar with the route.
Prizes are awarded to the first male and female finishers and to the winners in each age category. No mementos are provided. Car parking is provided by Belstone Cricket Club for a small cash charge; in 2025 the charge was £1 and a similar amount is expected in 2026. Race headquarters are on the village green by The Tors Inn.
