Event Overview
The Cosdon Hill Race is a traditional fell running event that takes place in Dartmoor. The course follows a route from Belstone Village to the beacon at the summit of Cosdon Hill and back to the village green. The race is held under the rules of the Fell Runners Association (FRA) and carries an "AS" race classification.
Participants are responsible for their own navigation as there are no course markers on the route. Runners must reach the compulsory checkpoint at Cosdon Beacon and provide their race number to the stewards before descending back to the finish line. The terrain consists of rough open moorland.
Distances and Categories
The event includes a main race and specific categories for younger runners:
- 3.1 miles (5 km): The senior race involving a climb of approximately 300 m.
- 3 km: A race for juniors under the age of 13.
- 2 km: A race for juniors under the age of 11.
Juniors aged 13 and over are permitted to compete in the senior distance.
Practical Information
Race headquarters are located on the village green by The Tors Inn, where registration takes place. Since there are no course markings, runners may choose to carry a map and compass. While there is no mandatory kit list, a whistle, waterproof jacket, and hat are advised if weather conditions are poor. Parking is available at the local cricket club for a small cash fee. Prizes are awarded to the first male and female finishers, as well as winners of various age categories. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
