The Magnificent 7 Mile Road Race
The Magnificent 7 is an annual road race organised by the Tamar Trotters running club and held from Saltash Rugby Club. The measured 7 mile figure of 8 course runs through rural lanes and hamlets of South East Cornwall and uses a mix of surfaces.
The race begins and finishes on a short grass section, with approximately 200 metres of grass at the start and finish. About one mile of the route follows pavement and cycle lanes on the approach to the club. The remainder follows undulating country lanes, with notable hills located at 1 mile and 5.5 miles. A water station is provided after the first climb at 1.5 miles and is passed again just before 4 miles.
Start, finish, registration, refreshments and prizes all take place at Saltash Rugby Club. Changing rooms and showers are available at the club and parking is typically about a ten minute walk away in a local industrial estate. Medals are awarded to all finishers. Bar and food facilities are available at the club after the race.
The event is part of the Cornish Grand Prix series; the series uses chip timing and holds a formal presentation of awards to category winners. The race normally attracts around 400 runners and mixes club competitors with recreational entrants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
