River Action's Taming of the Slough Adventure Triathlon
River Action's Taming of the Slough is an adventure triathlon scheduled for Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Bass Street YMCA & Sylvan Boathouse, 1701 1st Ave, Moline, IL. The course runs in and along the Mississippi River and Sylvan Slough and combines paddling, mountain biking, and running.
Distances and key course elements:
- Paddle: 2.5 miles in Sylvan Slough
- Mountain bike: 7.5 miles total, including 5 miles off-road and two laps on Sylvan Island
- Run: course crosses the I-74 Bridge
Entry options include multiple individual and team categories: Elite (racing kayaks must register Elite), Masters (ages 55+), Individual (ages 18+), Youth (ages 12-17), 2-person and 3-person teams, and a Corporate Adventure Challenge 3-person team. Teams may be all-men, all-women, or co-ed.
All equipment must be provided by participants; bike helmets and personal flotation devices are required. Canoe and kayak rentals are available through regional outfitters but must be reserved in advance. Online registration closes Thursday, September 10 at 11:59 pm. Packet pickup is scheduled the evening before the race at Active Endeavors, 3950 Elmore Ave, Davenport, IA. Late registration is available in person at packet pickup, at the race site, or at the River Action office.
Trophies are awarded to top finishers in individual and relay categories, and a post-race awards party with food and beverage follows the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
