River Action's Taming of the Slough Adventure Triathlon
River Action's Taming of the Slough Adventure Triathlon is scheduled for September 12, 2026, at the Bass Street YMCA & Sylvan Boathouse, 1701 1st Ave, Moline, IL. The event combines paddling, mountain biking, and running along the Mississippi River and Sylvan Slough.
The course components include:
- Paddle 2.5 miles in Sylvan Slough
- Mountain bike 7.5 miles total, including 5 miles off-road on Sylvan Island
- Run across the I-74 Bridge
Categories are offered for individuals and teams: Elite, Masters (age 55+), Individual (age 18+), Youth (age 12-17), 2-person team, 3-person team, and a Corporate Adventure Challenge (3-person team). Relay teams consist of kayak, bike, and run legs and may be all-men, all-women, or co-ed.
Equipment must be provided by participants; bike helmets and personal flotation devices are required. Racing kayaks affect starting position and should be entered in the Elite category. Canoe and kayak rentals are available through regional outfitters but must be reserved prior to the event; rentals are not provided at launch locations on race day.
Packet pickup is held the evening before at Active Endeavors in Davenport. Online registration closes September 10, 2026; late registration is available with an additional fee and a T-shirt is not guaranteed.
Trophies are awarded to top finishers by category, and a post-race awards gathering with food and beverage follows the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
