Run With Carl
Run With Carl is an annual Labor Day road race held in Bettendorf, Iowa on September 7, 2026. The event began in 1995 and was established to support the Carl D. Schillig memorial scholarship program. Over time title sponsorship changed from the Bettendorf Jaycees to Bettendorf Rotary and later to Ascentra Credit Union. Since 2014 the Bettendorf Community Schools Foundation and the Pleasant Valley Educational Foundation have continued the tradition of using proceeds to fund scholarships and educational opportunities. The memorial scholarship awards one student from Bettendorf High School and one from Pleasant Valley High School each year, with a minimum 2.3 grade point average and demonstrated participation in school, sports and community activities.
Race activities include multiple distances and timed results. The courses run on city streets and the Bettendorf recreation path and include hills. Course protection, timing splits and water stops are provided. Packet pick up and late registration take place at Bettendorf Middle School cafeteria Door 3W on the days prior to the race, and race day registration is available at the same location. Race shirts are provided for registrants while quantities last. Awards are given to top finishers in the 5K and 5 mile races and to master winners 60 and older; all children in the fun run receive medals.
