Event Overview
The Taking Steps for Autism Walk & 5K is a fundraiser supporting the organization Autism Everyone, sponsored by 14News. The event takes place on Saturday, April 18, 2026. It is held at the Vanderburgh County 4H Center at 201 E. Boonville-New Harmony Road in Darmstadt, Indiana. The event will proceed regardless of weather with no reschedule date.
Events
Three events are part of the program:
- Taking Steps for Autism 5K Run/Walk
- Autism Kid's Dash (for ages 12 and under, free entry)
- Autism Family Walk (1 mile)
Strollers and wagons are welcome for the family walk, but pets are not permitted except for service dogs.
Registration and Packet Pickup
The registration price for the 5K and the 1-mile Family Walk is $35, with a price increase scheduled after March 1, 2026. Participants who register on or before April 1, 2026, will receive a t-shirt with sponsors; those registering after this date will not. Packet pickup for shirts and 5K bibs is available on several days leading up to the event, as well as on the morning of the event at the 4H Center. Specific pickup times are listed as "to be determined."
Schedule Highlights
Registration for the 5K opens at 6:30 AM and closes at 7:30 AM. The 5K begins at 8:00 AM, with awards presented at 9:15 AM. The Kids Dash starts at 10:00 AM. The Family Walk begins at 10:30 AM. All events conclude by 12:00 PM.
