Tails on the Trail 5K & 1-Mile Wag & Walk
Tails on the Trail is an inaugural community running and walking event along the Old Plank Road Trail in Matteson, Illinois. The event benefits the animals of South Suburban Humane Society and directs proceeds to medical treatment, spay and neuter services, food, and daily care for animals awaiting adoption.

The 5K is a professionally timed run for participants who want official timing. The 1-Mile Wag and Walk is a relaxed, accessible walk intended for participants of various abilities, families, and friendly leashed pets. Registration opens February 13, 2026 and closes August 29, 2026. Registration fees listed are $45.00 for the 5K and $30.00 for the 1-Mile Wag and Walk. Packet pick-up is scheduled for Wednesday, August 26, with an afternoon and evening session at the SSHS shelter adoptions door, and there is an additional morning packet pick-up behind the SSHS building on the event day.
