Tails on the Trail 5K & 1-Mile Wag & Walk
Tails on the Trail is the inaugural community event on August 29, 2026, along the Old Plank Road Trail in Matteson, Illinois (21800 Central Ave, Matteson, IL 60443). The event offers two participant options and raises funds for the South Suburban Humane Society.
Participants may choose between:
- 5K - a professionally timed 5-kilometer run
- 1-Mile Wag & Walk - a relaxed, accessible one-mile walk for families and leashed pets
Registration opens February 13, 2026, and closes August 29, 2026. Fees listed for each event are $45.00 for the 5K and $30.00 for the 1-Mile Wag & Walk. Register by August 12 to guarantee shirt size.
Packet pick-up is scheduled at the South Suburban Humane Society shelter: Wednesday, August 26, 12:00–19:00 at the adoptions door, and Saturday morning behind the SSHS building from 08:30–10:00.
Proceeds from the event support lifesaving care at the South Suburban Humane Society, including medical treatment, spay and neuter services, food, and daily care for animals awaiting adoption. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
