Tacoma Independence Day 5K - July 4, 2026
The Tacoma Independence Day 5K is a chip timed, point to point road race that finishes at Owen Beach in Point Defiance Park. The course begins near Vassault Park at N 37th St and N Vassault St and is described as fast, flat and predominantly downhill. The event is USATF certified (WA23025RMB).
A Kids 1K also starts and finishes at Owen Beach; the kids course is an out and back that allows children to cross the same official finish line. Awards include overall male and female prizes and age group ribbons for the top five finishers in each age bracket from 9 and under through 90 plus.
Registration benefits and race swag are included with entry and may vary by distance. 5K participants receive a finisher medal and a tech tank top when ordered by June 15 to guarantee size. Entries include a collective bib; optional merchandise may be available during registration. Team discounts apply and a $5 refund is processed when teams reach specified sizes.
Event operations note gear check is available and gear bags are transported to the finish for claim by bib number. Shuttle buses run between the finish at Owen Beach and parking near the start. A portion of proceeds supports the Humane Society of Tacoma and Pierce County. Race policies state all fees are non refundable and minors require a parent or guardian waiver.
