Event overview

The Swanny Ocean Classic is an annual multi-discipline beachfront event run by the Swanbourne Nedlands Surf Life Saving Club. The 2026 edition marks the 40th running of the event, which began in 1986; there was one missed event in 2021 due to Covid. The event typically attracts around 1,000 participants and takes place on Saturday 31 January 2026 at the Swanbourne Nedlands Surf Lifesaving Club location.

Course, events and rules

All races follow the same coastal course from Cottesloe Beach (start in front of the Indiana Tearooms) to Swanbourne Beach (finish in front of the Swanbourne Patrol Tower). Distances offered:

  • 2 km swim from Cottesloe Beach to Swanbourne Beach.
  • 2 km run along the beach from Cottesloe to Swanbourne.

Wetsuits and other swim aids are allowed but competitors using them will not qualify for awards; such aids must be declared at entry or on the day. The organiser does not provide transport between the start and finish; participants may walk along the beach or Marine Parade back to the start.
