SVR Winter Series
The SVR Winter Series is a collection of eight running events taking place in Virginia and West Virginia. The series features multiple surfaces, including paved roads, gravel trails, and a motorsports track. Participants can register for the full series to compete for points and cumulative awards across the different locations.
Distances and Locations
The series includes the following events:
- 5 km: South Berkeley Christmas 5K at Musselman High School, Inwood, WV. This is a flat and fast road course.
- 5 km: Jingle Bell 5K at Blandy Experimental Farm, Boyce, VA. This loop course features wide gravel roads and rolling hills through the Virginia State Arboretum.
- 5 km: Wags at West Oaks Farmers Market, Winchester, VA. This cross-country style route passes through apple orchards and pumpkin patches on grass and gravel.
- 1 mile loop: 60 Minutes at the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley, Winchester, VA. This is a timed event where runners complete as many laps as possible in one hour on paved and gravel paths.
- 5 km: Gambler 5K at Third Winchester Battlefield, Winchester, VA. This event takes place on dirt and gravel trails.
- 5 km: Heart & Soles 5K at Middletown, VA. This loop course uses rolling country roads starting and finishing at Town Hall.
- 4 miles: Summit Point Motorsports Park, Summit Point, WV. This flat and fast course consists of two laps on a literal asphalt race track.
- 5 km: Ram Run 5K at Strasburg High School, Strasburg, VA. A mixed-surface loop through downtown and along a river trail.
Series Details
Full series participants receive a knit beanie and use a consistent shoe timing chip for races two through eight. Points are awarded for each race based on overall and age group finishes. A runner's final score is calculated using their top six finishes. To be eligible for awards, participants must be active club members and complete a minimum number of races. Earphones, pets, and strollers are not permitted in the races, with the exception of well-behaved dogs allowed only at the first event.
