About the race
Surrey Backyard Ultra takes place on September 19 and 20, 2026 at the Fleetwood Park picnic shelters, west of the playground in Surrey, British Columbia. Registration is free.
The format requires participants to complete a 6.706 km loop within one hour, every hour. Runners repeat the loop until only one runner remains. At the hourly whistle, runners must be in the starting chute and begin immediately or be disqualified. The final remaining runner must complete one solo victory loop to finish. Participants must be 18 years or older on race day. Racers may not leave the course during a loop except for bathroom breaks.
For 2026, every completed lap earns a raffle ticket for a selection of gear prizes from Arc'teryx. Reaching distance milestones : 10k, half marathon, marathon, 50k and 100k : unlocks bonus raffle entries.
The course is a mix of forested trail and pavement within Fleetwood Park, non technical terrain with about 85 m of elevation change. The route is marked with tape, flags or arrows and runners are asked to stay strictly on course.
This is a self supported event. Participants must carry sufficient hydration, nutrition, clothing and a first aid kit. Organizers provide limited neutral support such as basic food, water, coffee and tea and cannot accommodate dietary restrictions. Mandatory gear includes a front light and reflective back gear. A GPS unit with the route loaded is recommended and a hydration pack is encouraged. Parking is available in the main Fleetwood Park lot and on surrounding streets.
Safety notes: the event runs on public trails and hazards such as traffic and weather are possible. Entrants must have a personal bail out plan and know how to report a withdrawal or an emergency. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
