Superior Nightmare 5K
The Superior Nightmare is an annual Halloween-themed 5K organized by the Young Athletes Foundation in Superior, WI each October. The event is presented in coordination with the city’s Superior Spooktacular and combines a community road race with themed elements such as spooky surprises and family-friendly haunted features.
Participants may enter a costume contest with categories for individuals, groups, and kids; contest entries are photographed near the start-finish area and winners are selected by public vote. A separate Spider Dash kids’ program takes place on the track outside Wessman Arena; the kids’ races are free for ages 14 and under and run continuously so children can join multiple heats as space allows.
Race capacity is limited to 750 participants and registration is accepted on a first-come, first-served basis while space remains. Race packet pickup is available the Friday and Saturday before the event at the Grandma’s Marathon Office and at Wessman Arena. All adult entries include a commemorative full-zip jacket and all youth entries include a commemorative hooded sweatshirt; participants may also purchase commemorative socks.
Parking is provided near the start-finish area at Wessman Arena, Superior High School, and Northern Lights Elementary School. The event supports YAF programs that fund youth running programs, community grants, scholarships, and free running shoes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
