Superior Nightmare 5K : Superior, WI
The Superior Nightmare 5K is an annual Halloween-themed road race organized by the Young Athletes Foundation in Superior, Wisconsin. The event is presented as a family friendly costume run with spooky surprises and activities coordinated with the city’s Superior Spooktacular. The course starts and finishes near Wessman Arena on the University of Wisconsin–Superior campus and the start/finish area includes pre- and post-race activities.
The event includes a public costume contest with categories for individuals, groups, and kids; contest entries are photographed near the start-finish area and winners are selected by public voting on the organizer’s Facebook page. A free post-race drink ticket is provided to participants for use at the official post-race party hosted by Aces on 29th. Commemorative items included with entry are an adult full-zip jacket and a youth hooded sweatshirt; participants may also purchase commemorative socks during registration or packet pickup.
Packet pickup is available the Friday and Saturday before the race at designated locations, including Grandma’s Marathon Office in Duluth and Wessman Arena in Superior. The field is capped at 750 participants and registration is handled on a first-come, first-served basis until that capacity is reached. Spider Dash kids’ races are free for ages 14 and under and take place on the track near the finish area. Race rules restrict pets, bicycles, roller skates, and unregistered participants on the course; baby joggers and strollers must start at the back of the corral. Adaptive athletes are encouraged to participate and must follow the Wheelchair and Adaptive Program Guidance so reasonable accommodations can be provided.
